What goes into a block-paved driveway in Essex.
A block-paved driveway is only as good as what is underneath it. Most of the failed drives we are asked to replace in Essex sank or rutted because the dig was too shallow or the sub-base was skimped. We dig down to firm ground, lay and compact a proper Type 1 sub-base in layers, then screed the sand and lay the blocks on top.
A lot of Essex sits on heavy clay that holds water and moves with the seasons, so drainage matters as much as the blocks you choose. We set the falls so water runs away from the house, and use permeable paving, channel drains or a soakaway where needed to keep you within permitted development.

Block Paving questions,

Properly installed block paving lasts 20 years or more with very little upkeep. An occasional brush, weed and re-sand is usually all it needs.
Most domestic driveways using permeable paving fall under permitted development. We'll let you know during your free site visit.
Yes. Full excavation, removal and disposal is included in our quote.
Standard block paving is roughly £95 to £140 per square metre fully installed. An average 30 to 60 square metre drive is usually £4,800 to £8,500, and permeable paving is £150 to £200 per square metre.
A standard front drive takes three to five working days. Larger drives or ones that need extra drainage can take a week or a little more.
Not usually, as long as the surface is permeable or the water drains onto a lawn or border on your property. A non-permeable front driveway over 5 square metres needs planning, and a new or wider dropped kerb needs council approval.
The same day it is finished. Once the joints are sanded and compacted there is no curing time, unlike concrete or resin.
Keep the joints topped up with kiln-dried sand and give it a stiff brush a couple of times a year. A joint sealant after the first few months helps a lot.
