Most fences we replace in Essex did not fail at the panels, they failed at the posts. Timber posts rot at ground level, especially in wet clay, and the whole run starts to lean. We fit concrete posts and gravel boards as standard so the timber never touches the soil.
Before we start we will talk through who owns the boundary and whether your neighbour needs a heads-up. Most garden fences up to 2 metres high do not need planning permission, but next to a road the limit is usually 1 metre, so it is worth checking first.
Fencing often goes in alongside a new patio or driveway, and we can do all of it on one schedule.

Closeboard fencing is about £55 to £80 per metre installed at 1.8m high, plus £8 to £12 per metre for concrete posts and gravel boards. A 25 metre run is usually £1,500 to £2,100 and a full 50 metre garden £2,800 to £4,000.
