A patio has to cope with Essex clay, heavy rain and the odd hard frost. The ones that fail nearly always went down on spot-bedded mortar or a thin sub-base. We lay on a full mortar bed over compacted Type 1, with a fall away from the house so water never sits against your walls.
Porcelain has taken over from sandstone in most of the gardens we do. It does not stain, does not need sealing and suits a modern extension with bi-folds. Indian sandstone still gives the best look for the money and suits period homes and cottage gardens. We lay both, and we will tell you honestly which suits your garden.
If the patio is part of a bigger garden plan, we also do steps, raised beds, fencing and block paving, so it can all be done in one go.

Yes. Our patios come with a warranty covering both workmanship and materials.
Not much. A sweep, the odd rinse, and a sealant every few years depending on the material. We'll talk you through care at handover.
An average 30 square metre patio costs about £4,200 to £6,500 in Indian sandstone or £6,200 to £9,500 in porcelain, supplied and fitted including the sub-base.
Porcelain is best for modern homes, shaded gardens and families who want no maintenance. Sandstone gives the best look for the money and suits period properties, but needs sealing every two to three years.
A typical 30 square metre patio takes four to six working days. Steps, retaining walls or difficult access add time, and we will tell you up front.
Light foot traffic after a day or two. Leave heavy furniture and barbecues for about a week while the mortar cures.
Usually not for a rear garden patio at ground level. Raised decks or platforms over 30cm high and front garden surfaces can need consent, and we will check that for you.
